Carefully selected from several low yielding premium vineyards with an average vine age of 20 years, the fruit then spent 18 months in French oak barriques. Deep dark crimson red in colour. An intriguing bouquet of sweet blackcurrants, berries, mintiness, vanillin oak and lifted spice. The palate is well rounded with a savoury dryness of tobacco, soft mint and interwoven oak, seamlessly layered with the rich flavours of cassis, ripe plum, blackberry, sweet cinnamon spice, mellow tannins and a lingering oaky finish. A beautifully structured wine that will cellar well. Pair with braised lamb shanks with rosemary.
Bird in Hand is renowned internationally as one of the top producers of wine from anywhere around the world. The Estate itself has sought to evolve far beyond what is usually expected of a winery and provides tantalising indulgences for all the senses. Much more than just award-winning wines, Bird in Hand believes in a full body appreciation of the finer things in life; gourmet food from the onsite restaurant, artistic works for the eyes, a series of concerts every year, 100 acres of aromatic gardens and vineyards for the olfactory senses, and, finally, a unique series of luxury items, produced by Bird in Hand, that tempts the touch. The Bird in Hand wines themselves are proceeded by their very excellent reputation, but even if you hadn't heard about them before the name Kym Milne might stop you. Master of Wine since 1991, Kym has been Bird in Hand's Chief Winemaker for many years and has only increased the international standing to which these wines have more than earned their due.
