Aromas of rich dark cherries and toasty oak. On the palate, spicy plums and blackcurrants mingle with earthy notes of mint, tobacco and mocha. A medium bodied Merlot with fine grained tannins and balanced acidity leading to a persistent dusty oak finish. Pair with veal chops and portabello mushrooms. 14% Alc/Vol.
Windowrie is a family owned and operated wine company, first established in 1987 about 26km from Cowra by David and Wizz O'Dea. The initial planting of 60 acres was divided into 'traditional' and 'non traditional' varieties; the usual varieties of Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon, Shiraz, Cabernet and Merlot, as well as Tempranillo, Sangiovese, Verdelho, Chenin Blanc, and Petit Verdot grapes. The vineyard, expanded to 150 acred in 1991, is now almost completely certified organic, with some parts still in conversion, and the O'Dea family practices a belief in minimal intervention to limit their environmental footprint.
